The Lakota have a saying known as
Hoka Hey
(Today is a good day to die)
While it is easy to assume and associate this with “tombstone courage” or a “kamikaze” spirit , there’s actually more to unpack here.
Hokahey means your life is is lived without regrets, unfinished business, or broken relationships. Everything is accounted for/carefully planned/carefully executed so that you’re able to face daunting challenges, tribulations, struggles without the shackles of fear and doubt.
It is the ability to release the fetters that cause us to freeze in the middle of a fight. So that instead of thinking about “life flashing before our eyes” you focus and charge forward into the fray greatly increasing your chances of survival because you can engage unbound.
So today, “clean your house” , tend to your affairs, and mend those broken fences. The enemy is charging and must be met with full force
